We would like to know more about you.

I have been married for the past 47 years to my wonderful wife, Selenta (nee Joubert).

I am the father of a daughter and have one granddaughter. I started my career in 1971 at the Department of Justice (Magistrate & Public Prosecutor) after which I started at Eskom in 1978. For the first five years in the HR Department and thereafter in the Chemical Services Department. I was employed by Eskom at Hendrina Power Station for 40 years. In 2018

I retired and settle in George. I moved from George to La Récolte on 1 July 2022 and was elected chairman of La Récolte at the last Annual General Meeting.

What do you do for fun?

My extracurricular activities include bowling and golf and I enjoy the outdoors.

Why did you decide to retire at La Récolte?

We moved to La Récolte to be closer to our daughter.

“My passion in life is to serve and minister to people.

I strive for a happy environment."

Valentine’s day Celebrations

This year Valentine’s day was Celebrated at La Vue, our residents were wined and dined by Western Province Catering. It was a magical evening with fantastic food, lovely décor and live music provided by Christo Lotz from “Die Broers."

Accompanied by friend, family, spouses and grandchildren, our residents took to the dance floor to celebrate this special day dedicated to love.

We would like to give a special thanks to Ray, Gaynor and their team from Western Province Catering for this unforgettable evening.

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count.

It’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln.

Feeling Younger

However young we feel, there’s no ignoring the facts, while age is just a number, when you turn 60 years old, that means your body has been working for 60 years.

For many, reaching 60 also means the discovery of new found freedom, a quieter home, the potential to eat whatever and whenever you want and go out often without worrying about the children. There are hopefully fewer financial concerns, as well as the pleasure of grandchildren, senior discounts, and having independent and grown-up children whose company you can enjoy.

You may also have a better feeling of yourself with fewer insecurities.

You stop worrying about the insignificant things in life and have a better understanding and appreciation of your own mortality.

Tips for feeling Younger

▢ Don’t feel under pressure to take up a specific sport but remain active.

A simple half hour walk with a friend will help to maintain social connections and

get the blood flowing.

▢ Enjoy friendships with a broad range of people both younger and older, ensuring

you benefit from a wide range of outlooks and experiences.

▢ Look after yourself physically by going for regular check-ups.

▢Don’t be afraid to make positive life changes and avoid thinking it’s too late for that.

It’s never too late to make important changes that will bring you happiness

The Death of a Spouse

When your spouse dies, your world changes. You may feel numb, shocked, and fearful. You may feel guilty for being the one who is still alive. At some point, you may even feel angry at your spouse for leaving you. All of these feelings are normal.

There are no rules about how you should feel. There is no right or wrong way to mourn. Here are a few guidelines to help you in this time: ▢Take care of yourself. ▢ Get help from your family, friends, or professionals if you need it. ▢ Visit with members of your religious community. ▢Make plans to get out of the house.

“If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them

live on is to never stop loving them.”
