Way of Living
Happy and Healthy Ageing
Old age is a great time to sit back and enjoy your life.
You are much wiser, people’s opinions do not easily fluster you, you are much more comfortable in your own skin, your kids have left home, and you have the freedom to do all the things you want to do.
Enjoying your life is a significant contributor to healthy aging.

Have a sense of purpose and stay connected
People who stayed in touch with family and friends stayed healthy in their old age.
Take care of your appearance
Just because you are advancing in years should not mean that you can’t do it in style.
When you look good, you feel even better.
Stay up to date
Listen to Lady Gaga’s new album at least once or search your favorite songs on YouTube from Ella Fitzgerald to Stevie Wonder to Dolly Parton.
Music improves your mood, posture, and memory.
Join a support group in times of change
When a change occurs as it usually will, you will need a reliable support system.
It could be a recent loss or a severe diagnosis. Working through your emotions by talking about them and listening to people who have been through similar experiences is soothing to the soul and will help you heal.
Recommended New Years Resolutions
Give your brain a workout
The more you use your mind, the better it will work.
Read, do crossword puzzles or try Sudoku.
Socializing also gives your brain a boost.
Get enough sleep
Older adults need less sleep than younger people, right? Wrong!
Older people need just as much — at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night.
Laugh more
Laughter relaxes the whole body, boosts the immune system, triggers the release of endorphins (the body's natural feel-good chemicals), burns calories, lightens anger's heavy load, it may even help you to live longer!
Join a exercise group.
Silver Fit is an evidence-based exercise program specifically designed for individuals over the age of 60 years old. Their aim is to improve your strength and stability, as well as your overall health status.
Each class is 45 minutes long and is tailored to suit your individual fitness levels.
Membership is a monthly fee of R349 only.
